Role of the Action Group: Human Rights in Health and Social Care

Human rights belong to us all. They are the basic rights and freedoms that define us as human beings, which therefore dictate that our dignity, personal freedoms and personal outcomes are central in the way that others interact with us.

As part of the fourth priority area in Scotland’s first National Action Plan for Human Rights, Public Health Scotland (formerly NHS Health Scotland) and the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) co-convened the Human Rights Action Group on Health and Social Care. The role of the Action Group was to identify opportunities for using human rights as a driver for change in health and social care and challenge and lobby for greater change to achieve this.
