Consultation response – ‘Mental Health in Scotland – a 10 year vision’

The SNAP Health and Social Care action group has responded to the Scottish Government’s consultation on ‘Mental Health in Scotland – a 10 year vision’ to highlight the potential of adopting a rights-based approach in supporting the transformation of mental health in Scotland.

While the action group welcomed the reference to human rights within the consultation document, the response stresses that the strategy needs to go much further to clarify and articulate the rights, standards and principles that will underpin it and the practical measures that will be taken to operationalise these.

The submission also outlines that while there are several examples of people enjoying good standards of mental health care, treatment and support around Scotland, there are still many restrictions to people’s full enjoyment of their rights.
